Austin has a great music history from it's '60's origins with KAZZ FM and Sonogram Records spinning The Thirteenth Floor Elevators and The Sweetarts to The Vulcan Gas Co., Janis Joplin and Johnny Winter. The 70's saw that sweet mingling of cowboy and hippy called "Outlaw" at The Armadillo and Oat Willies to the early punk scene at Raul's, Duke's Royal Coach Inn, Club Foot, Studio 29. It's been a great ride and made Austin the live music capital of the world. Enjoy a memory or two from our ticket archives. A paper testament to Austin's music history.

This Journey show (see tour archive) was the 11th stop of the band's second tour promoting their second album LOOK INTO THE FUTURE (see discography). Journey's first appearance was Dec. 31, 1973 at The Winterland. San Francisco, CA. opening for Santana and Herbie Hancock. Their first album self-titled JOURNEY was released in April 1975, it was reasonably successful. Journey didn't really get huge until their 4th album INFINITY (1978) which contained the hits Feelin That Way and Wheel in the Sky.

This was a weekday show at the Armadillo during it's heyday. Journey had been opening for such bands as ELO, Elvin Bishop, Dr. Feelgood, Wishbone Ash, Boz Skaggs, Tower of Power, Todd Rundgren, Nils Lofgren, Jefferson Starship, and Lynard Skynard during this tour. Journey had played Jul. 10, 1976 at the Midamerica Fairgrounds in Topeka, KS. with Natural Gas and Quick Silver Messengers (Black Oak Arkansas). My guess is they worked their way down to Austin from there to headline at the Armadillo. Opening for Journey was Baby. I couldn't find anything on the internet about the band, but I do remember seeing Baby in the '70's in and around Austin. I'm pretty sure they were a Texas based rock band in the Too Smooth / Heyoka catagory.
